07 / Current Builds

Currently on the bench

Not everything I work on is finished enough to call a completed project. This page is a running log of what I am currently building, testing, redesigning, and occasionally breaking along the way.

Current engineering projects in progress

Running build log

Active / Avionics

Next-generation flight computer

My next personal flight-computer generation: a smaller SMD-based board that carries forward the flight-proven architecture from my earlier through-hole designs while improving size, integration, and packaging.

Active / Materials

Casting & metallography experiments

Informal casting experiments followed by sample preparation and metallographic inspection to better understand the resulting material structure.

Active / Flight Controls

Canard-controlled rocket

Developing my next active-control vehicle around aerodynamic canards, with ground testing, simulation, control tuning, and parachute-deployment validation underway before flight.

Active / Collegiate Rocketry

2027 IREC avionics package

Leading the development of a custom flight computer, GPS/telemetry board, strain-gauge acquisition hardware, and recovery-deployment systems for EWU Aerospace’s SRAD 10,000 ft competition vehicle.

Active / Materials + Instrumentation

Embedded carbon-fiber strain gauges

Developing constantan-based strain gauges intended to be inlaid directly into the carbon-fiber airframe, with dedicated signal-conditioning and ADC hardware for structural flight data and possible future active-control use.

Active / Propulsion

SRAD motor development

Working with the team’s 29 mm, 38 mm, and 54 mm KNSB motor progression, custom test-stand instrumentation, and simulated/machined nozzle development on the path toward an M-class competition motor.

Active / Embedded + RF

Wearable communicator

A compact ESP32/SX1262 communicator exploring off-grid voice, local command recognition, phone connectivity, custom PCB integration, and a self-contained wearable form factor.

Active / High-Power Rocketry

Level 2 certification rocket

Developing my next personal high-power rocket for a planned Level 2 certification attempt in spring 2027, with the design focused on reliable recovery, straightforward flight operations, and a platform I can continue building on after certification.
